The company installs a forklift reversing assist camera and safety protection system in EMEA facilities
CEMEX is strengthening its commitment to health and safety by implementing new safety assistance systems at all its European mixing facilities. The technology was fully installed in most of these sites by the end of 2023, with further plans to roll it out across the EMEA region on a wider scale during 2024.
The systems were first tested at Cemex’s blending plant in Salzkoten, Germany. After the success of the trial, this technology was applied at the company’s factory in Rugby, United Kingdom, and is scheduled to be installed at the Alicante site in Spain soon.
This technology was provided by German manufacturers Linde Material Handling. Its features include a reversing assist camera for forklift trucks, which detects pedestrians behind forklifts in reverse. In the event of danger, the technology will alert the driver and automatically reduce the truck’s speed.
Linde will also implement its “Safety Protection System” on all building gates where forklifts can be driven; These project warning signs are to make pedestrians and other forklift operators aware of a vehicle entering the facility.
“At Cemex, we are always looking for new processes and innovations to ensure safety in our workplaces,” said Dietmar Fuchs, Director of Admixtures Europe. “The Linde Safety Protection System and Rear Assist Camera are ideal solutions for occupational safety in our mixing plants; we were immediately convinced by the technology and it was The feedback we have received from staff who have used it has been very positive.
“Once the European rollout is complete, we are excited to adapt the technology further for use in our blend plants across the wider EMEA region.”
Fabian Zimmermann, Product Manager – Safety at Linde Material Handling, said: “We are proud to support Cemex in the implementation of both the safety protection system and the reversing assistance camera in their European batching plants.
“By installing these systems, the safety of everyday situations such as loading and unloading trucks or storage can be significantly increased. We offer these solutions as an upgrade; thus, entire fleets can be equipped with these assistance systems.
