1st out of 150 total Hydrogen powered trucks It will start rolling over Europe. roads next year. Some of the world’s largest truck manufacturers, such as Daimler Truck, Volvo Group and Iveco, have come together to support a research project called H2Accelerate Trucks.
The project involves putting 150 zero-emission trucks on the road, all powered by fuel cells. At the same time, a total of eight hydrogen filling stations are being built along truck routes.
A major project on the path to zero emissions
“A launch of this scale makes the H2Accelerate truck project a real game changer,” says Steffen Müller-Holst of SINTEF.
Møller-Holst has been involved in the development of hydrogen technologies since 1990 and believes that this project will provide crucial learning that can be used to develop sustainable energy systems not only in Europe, but also in Norway. Møller-Holst is Deputy President of Marketing Hydrogen technology at SINTEF, It will be formatted project.
“This project provides us with an opportunity to coordinate the development of ultra-modern truck technology with the necessary infrastructure for it,” says Müller-Holst. “It will enable us to meet the climate change mitigation ambitions pursued by countless European companies looking to achieve zero-emission transport for their goods,” he says.
The project aims to create a platform to increase the manufacturing capacity of thousands of trucks annually. The trucks that will be operated during the first phase of the project will have a carrying capacity of up to 44 tons and a range of between 600 and 1,000 kilometers.
The Norwegian experience will be decisive
This project builds on SINTEF’s extensive research and development efforts in hydrogen technologies over the past three decades.
“In total, SINTEF has acted as coordinator or partner in around 35 EU-funded projects, covering everything from technology and concept development to the upgrading of manufacturing and market implementation processes that we are involved in today,” says Müller-Holst. “That’s why we wanted to act as coordinator for the H2Accelerate Trucks project,” he says.
One SINTEF project has successfully brought wholesalers into the grocery business Asco Med-Norg The first transport company in Scandinavia to power its trucks with hydrogen. Asco The fuel is produced using electricity generated by solar panels installed on the company’s buildings.
Energy companies Shell, Everfuel and TotalEnergies, consulting firm Element Energy, and research institutes SINTEF and VTT (based in Finland) are also members of the consortium that has received EU funds worth €30 million as part of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership.
