American Airlines Cargo expanded its European network this summer to help the company serve more customers more efficiently and without disruptions or other problems.
Trucking services operate using flight numbers, connecting offline cities and online points to the rest of the global airline network, with over 450 flights departing from Europe each week.
The airline offers multiple overnight trucking options, meaning American Airlines can connect vital European cities together and help offset high load factors, expand capacity and improve routing options for customers. The Netherlands, Germany and France feed the airline’s operations at London Heathrow Airport (LHR), which operates 20 daily direct flights to the United States.
The online destinations are expected to be fed by about 4.5 million pounds (2 million kilos) per month of cargo carried on the company’s aircraft.
“Operating trucking services from across Europe to London gives us access to freight markets that we otherwise would not be able to serve,” said Andy Cornwell, American Airlines’ regional director of freight sales – Northern Europe. “It has enabled us to become a major player in a number of markets where we do not offer direct trucking services. By introducing overnight trucking, we are now able to serve customers in countries such as Denmark, Hungary and beyond.”
“Our French team recognized that we had an opportunity to increase capacity from Spain by launching dedicated shuttle services to connect to our flights,” said Kathleen Lesage, American Airlines’ regional director of cargo sales – Western Europe. “Since these southern cities are much closer to Spain than Paris, it made perfect sense.”
