European standards for safe and secure truck parking and their extension to zero-emission trucks and refrigerated trailers
The ongoing initiative by the European Commission to develop new standards for safe truck parking in Europe is of great importance to ensure safe and good conditions for European truck drivers. We therefore very much welcome this initiative. However, in the context of the European Green Deal and given the urgent need to decarbonise road transport to reach climate neutrality by 2050, we are concerned that the current needs for refrigerated trailers and the future needs for zero-emission trucks are not taken into account.
Therefore, the signatories of the letter demand the following:
Refrigerated truck docking stations for all new parking areas and those undergoing significant upgrades; assessment of the capacity of the existing network of parking areas to be able to plan ahead for future needs for zero-emission trucks; and EU funding linked to these criteria, i.e. only parking areas that offer these services and provide this information should have access to CEF funding for safe and secure truck parking.
