European commercial vehicle manufacturers and Chinese regulators are intensifying their cooperation in a joint effort to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of China’s transportation sector.
European and Chinese executives and technical experts will meet on October 12 in Beijing at the China-Europe Commercial Vehicle Technology and Regulation Forum, the first-ever high-level forum of its kind. The conference is co-organized by the China National Technical Committee for Automotive Standardization (NTCAS) and the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), and will be followed up with several working-level meetings next year.
“European commercial vehicle manufacturers have set international standards for truck safety, and the environmental performance of their vehicles often exceeds the most stringent limit values,” says ACEA Secretary General Ivan Hudak. “Developing the partnership with the Chinese is a matter of mutual interest and we greatly appreciate the opportunity to intensify dialogue with legislators and cooperation at the business level.”
China is currently thinking comprehensively about how to improve the safety standards, environmental performance and efficiency of its logistics sector, a key component of China’s fast-growing economy. Topics to be addressed at the forum include design and manufacturing issues for commercial vehicles, enhancing safety inspections and type approval procedures, and using information technology to improve logistics and transportation capacity utilisation.
Forum participants will develop a roadmap for the upcoming NTCAS standardization work for commercial vehicles in China, which includes new standards to be formulated and existing standards to be updated. European participants will share their experiences with the European regulatory framework and explain the importance of harmonized UN/ECE standards. In parallel, a technical workshop will be held on braking standards for commercial vehicles.
