The male-dominated trucking industry is changing, and more women are joining the ranks of trucking company owners and truck drivers.
Fanny Krause is a successful German entrepreneur who founded FK Transporte, a trucking company that partners with Amazon to move loads across Europe. Through the Amazon Freight Partner Program, she’s built a business and a lifestyle she’s proud of.
“Before joining the program, I worked as a finance specialist at a large German credit company for fifteen years. After such a long time, I felt that my life was starting to become boring. I needed to start looking for new challenges, and here I am!” she says.
Fanny and her husband love traveling with their seven-year-old daughter through Europe in their motorhome. Her journey as an Amazon Shipping Partner gives her the opportunity to decide when and how often they travel.
“What I value most now is the flexibility I have,” she says. “I can decide at any time when and where I want to work, and I think that’s really great. I can decide whether I’m going to pay salaries now or maybe just tonight. Because I’m my own boss now and I can “I decide. That’s flexibility for me.”
Fani sees no reasons why women should not work in logistics, even if it is a traditionally male-led industry.
“I don’t see any differences for me in logistics, just because I’m a woman. Logistics for me simply means the ability to make quick decisions. To always think about how we can quickly move things from point A to point B.
Michaela Brauer is from a small village near Halle in Germany. She is one of the truck drivers at FK Transporte and loves her job.
“Since I was young I was only interested in tractors, trucks and big machines. It has always been a dream of mine to drive a truck or big machine myself at some point,” she says.
Michaela knows that the trucking industry is not always easy and realizes that she needs to be strong and determined every day. However, she also knows that it’s worth the effort and recommends that those who share her dreams give it a try.
“We need more strong women who have the nerve to drive a truck, because the job is just fun!”
